What I Really Do In The Sims

It was recently announced that pool and toddlers were not going to be included in the upcoming EA game The Sims 4.  As someone who has played The Sims in the past, I am actually in favor of this move.  This move will give developers of the game time to focus on two aspects of the game that are critically important to it's success. One: That it actually works.

Two: The ability to pursue, entice, bed, and then leave a long string of unintelligible digital beauties.  If I do nothing else in The Sims, what I do is try to "woo-hoo" many many many many many many many many many many people.  I'm not alone is doing in video games what I cannot do in real life.  Why do you think shooters are so popular?  Why do you think sports games are so popular?  Why do you think world saving RPGs are so popular?  Hell, why is Minecraft so popular?  Seriously, why is Minecraft so popular?  I just don't get it.

After Careful Observation...

On Monday, the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo kicked off, and many of the biggest players in the video game industry held press conferences where they detailed the products, services, and initiatives that they plan to unveil in the near future.  I watched three of the press conferences that were held by: Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Sony.  During these press conferences I was struck, not by what was presented to me, but by the reactions that I observed online.  So, rather than report on what went on during these press conferences, I'm going to report on the reactions among video game consumers to these press conferences.  After careful observation, I am able to distill these reactions and present them to you in a short concise manner.  Okay, here goes:

Project Make A Political Statement

Since I started pursuing Project Buy A House, I haven't been doing a lot of protest buying.  Protest buying is where you buy a product as a form of political statement.  Sure I switched from Coke to Pepsi last year due to Pepsi's support for the Human Rights Campaign, but all that has resulted in is me spending the same amount of money on one product as opposed to another.  I'd like to use my wallet to make my voice known, but buying a house is a long term goal of mine that I am damn sure going to accomplish.

I'm buying The Sims 4.  I don't care if I can or cannot run the game on my current laptop, I'm buying this game.  Okay, I might hold off untill later this year, since I am very close to finally having enough money saved up for a downpayment for a house, buy I am buying this game.  Maybe.  Perhaps.  Hopefully.  Maybe.
