Seventeen Questions To Live

Once again I am looking toward a magazine for questions that would be embarrassing for me to answer and would make my audience squirm.  I read the July/August 2014 issue of Playboy Magazine, the one with Bianca Balti on the cover, pictured above.  I poured over this issue looking for anything resembling a collection of questions that would potentially be embarrassing for anyone to answer, specifically embarrassing for me............ and I found nothing.  Nothing that I found in this issue constitutes something low brow that only serves to embarrass the subject.  Perhaps that is why Playboy is called "Entertainment For Men", as opposed to "Entertainment For Boys"....

Which is what Maxim appears to be, because when I went looking in the July/August 2014 issue of Maxim for embarrassing questions I quickly found the material I was looking for.  The questions I am answering come from an article done with Mark Wahlberg entitled "24 Hours To Live", which appears on the last page of the July/August 2014 issue of Maxim Magazine.

So how do you want to go?
Why do you ask?  Also, why do you have that gun?

Now give us the Michael Bay-directed, high-octane, explosion-packed version.
Okay.  Turn the camera on for three hours and I'll do nothing that people find to be interesting.

Do you have any deathbed confessions?
Yes, I am the Zodiac Killer.  Also, I am DB Cooper, Jack The Ripper, and the Walrus.  Coo coo ca choo.

Do you think that's enough to send you to hell, or will you be going to heaven?
Being an Athiest, I don't believe in Heaven, or Hell for that matter.

If you could take one Transformer with you, which would you take and why?
There's a transformer up the road that supplies power to my neighborhood.  If they don't have power where I am going, can I take that with me?

You're an avid golfer.  If you make it to heaven, who would you most like to tee it up with in the afterlife?
Someone who I could beat, so no one.

How would the Entourage crew fare in a Decepticon attack?
I have no idea how to answer any part of that question.

What about your furry pal Ted?
Is Tedakin furry?  I've never thought about that.

What did you spend the most money on during your lifetime?
I've never really thought about that.  The most expensive thing I've ever bought was Rubi, my car, but that's about to be eclipsed when I accomplish Project Buy A House.

Name one thing you're glad you'll never have to do again on Earth.
Answer these questions.

What's the wildest thing you ever did while you were alive?
This one time, I went to bed WITHOUT BRUSHING MY TEETH!  Hahaha, but seriously, Allison.

Do you spend your last day in Boston, New York, or L.A., and why?  And how are you spending it?
Given the choices, spending my last day in Boston watching a Red Sox game seems appealing to me.  But, again, why are you asking me this?  Also, why do you have that gun?

If you could come back and spy on someone who's still alive, who would it be and why?
If I wanted to spy on people I would have taken that job with the NSA.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Paying off my car loan a year and a half early.  I could say Project Buy A House but I haven't quite accomplished that yet.

What is your biggest regret?
Answering these questions.

What there anyone on Earth you wanted to punch in the face?
Yes, and I did.  Then I ran.

Got any last words?
Look, you need to put that gun away, you're concerning me.

St. Louis Cardinals 2014 Season Projections

With Spring Training beginning to ramp up, many baseball fans can feel the 2014 Major League Baseball season fast approaching.  There are many storylines coming into the new season: Will the Boston Red Sox be able to recreate the success of last year?  Will the moves made by the New York Yankess bring them back to the playoffs?  Will the addition of Robinson Cano lead the Seattle Mariners back to the top of the AL West?  And, will the grand experiment of infusing the payroll with a fuckton of cash finally pay off for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  While I will be following all of these storylines in a passive manner, my personal area of focus will be on the St. Louis Cardinals.

The venerated franchise, who over their history have won eleven World Series championships, went 97-65 last season, finishing first in the NL Central and losing to the Red Sox in the World Series.  While many franchises may see such a season as highly successful, such a season is seen as a disappointment to the Cardinals due to their two World Series championships since 2006.

Pitching has always been an area of focus for the St. Louis Cardinals, and, with the naming of Adam Wainwright as their opening day starter, the Cardinals look to have a solid rotation going into the season with the continues ascensions of Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez.

With the front office actively working to make the entire organization better, and Matt Carpenter looking like he's returning to form, it looks like the St. Louis Cardinals are poised to make another run at a World Series championship.  If no major long term injuries plague this team, and they keep their focus, success is all but assured for this franchise.  Focus, however, may be a problem due to the Cardinals recent foray into social issues, specifically the contentious issue of how religions handle divorce.

Project Smoke A Blunt

As I've demonstrated before, I'd love to take a vacation but I don't have a good idea as to what to do.  I did have an idea recently, but I dismissed it because I didn't think it was a good idea.

Recently Colorado decriminalized small amounts of marijuana for recreational use for people who don't live in the state of Colorado.  That means that I could travel to Colorado for the purposes of smoking pot and not be a criminal for doing so.  However, I wouldn't want to say that I was going to Colorado for the purposes of smoking pot because, as I've demonstrated before, my family reads my blog.  So, I'd have to find a legitimate reason to travel to Colorado so that I can say that I'm doing that thing instead of what I'm actually doing, going there to smoke pot.  Perhaps skiing.

Yeah, no.  If I'm going to ride on something cold and then crash afterward, I'd rather get married.  Perhaps, as the Colorado Tourism Office suggests, I can go to the Alpine Hotsprings Hideaway.

Ouch!  That comment wasn't from the temperature of the hotspring, I was looking at the rates.  $295 a night with a $400 deposit and a $100 cleaning fee for parties over six.  Yeah, no.  I'm not paying that much to boil in a tub.  I could go zipling at Adventures Out West.

Yeah, no.  If I'm going to recreate something from an episode of South Park, I'd rather nail a hermaphrodite at the Drunken Barn Dance.  I've heard that Denver has a baseball team.  Perhaps the Red Sox are playing the Colorado Rockies next year.

After looking over the Rockies schedule for next year, it appears the Red Sox aren't playing the Rockies this year.  But hey, I see the Mets are playing the Rockies next year, and John Stewart apparently likes the Mets for reasons that are unexplainable.  And tickets are available for these series of games right now.  Perhaps I could use going to Denver to see the Colorado Rockies play the New York Mets as a cover for going to Denver to smoke pot.  But do I really want to go through all that trouble to smoke pot.  I mean, it's just smoking pot.  I've been told for years that doing drugs is bad.  I'm not even really that motivated to smoke pot.

Okay, now I'm motivated to go to Colorado to smoke pot.  Hell, I'm not even tell people that I'm going to Colorado to do something else.  I'm going to Colorado to smoke pot... eventually.  Once Project Buy A House is over, I'm totally going to go to Colorado to get baked.  Thank you Bill O'Reilley.  You are a constant source of inspiration to me.  And by that I mean I get inspired by Bill O'Reilley to do whatever he says is bad.  It's why I got that abortion.

Costume?

Today is Halloween, a day on which many adults wear scary costumes to work that fall in line with their workplace's dress code guidelines.  Like many adults, I to have a job where I can wear a costume on this festive day.  So, what costume am I wearing to work today?

Dude, the Red Sox won the World Series last night.  I'm wearing my David Ortiz jersey to work today.

Happy Boston Red Sox Winning The World Series

I'd Love To Review Beyond: Two Souls, However...

Beyond: Two Souls came out on Tuesday, and the game from the developer of Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy has garnered mixed reviews, ranging from Five Stars from Digital Spy to a 4/10 from Metro GameCentral.  I'd love to review Beyond: Two Souls, however there are three things preventing me from doing so.
There's the Boston Red Sox/Tampa Bay Rays ALDS series that I am watching as I am writing this blog post.  Each of the games have eaten up about four hours of my night/morning, which has resulted in my DVR being abnormally full.
Then there's Grand Theft Auto V, which I am still trying to complete.  I managed to get into Grand Theft Auto Online yesterday, and found that if I truly want to experience this part of the game I need to invest a lot more time into it.
Then there's the primary reason why I haven't even bought Beyond: Two Souls as of yet: Project Buy A House.  My pursuit of this goal has been pushed back recently after my rent was increased, of which I was informed of two days before my rent was actually due. Further pushing back my pursuit of this goal is my family continuing to act as if I have a great amount of excess cash that I can bestow on them at will.  It's as if they don't realize that my money is mine and that I have plans to do things with my money that is mine.
Perhaps in the future I will be able to play and review Beyond: Two Souls.  Perhaps in the future I will accomplish Project Buy A House.  And, perhaps in the future, vivid rainbows will fly out of my ass.  Untill then, I can only dream and hope.................................................................................................................. that my family stops hitting me up for cash like I'm a fucking ATM machine.

Moving In Slow Motion: 49.4% Complete

After buying a new laptop and paying that laptop off, I am back to pursuing my top priority, Project Buy A House.  As I go forward, I have a better idea of how much money I need to save for a downpayment after talking to a banker.
No, wait, the guy I talked to is not a crook!  The banker I talked to works for a credit union, which means he is somewhat more trustworthy.  At least I think he's more trustworthy.  At the very least, the credit union I talked with is not projecting a sense of being run by slimeballs.  However, since I do have a better idea as to how much money I need to save for a downpayment, I now know that amount is bigger than it was when I first started saving.
Yeah, I know, it's frustrating, but it was frustrating before, and now it's just a slightly increased amount of frustration.  But eventually this will pay off, right?  Right?  RIGHT?!?  Sigh.  Okay, let's do this.
Another payday has come around, and it's time to see just what I could buy with my money if I was not spending it on Project Buy A House.  After seeing my paycheck and taking out things like rent, insurance, and other incidentials, I have exactly $287.71 to not spend on myself.  Let's see what I am not buying.
My car, which I paid off as a part of Project Buy A House, has an all black leather interior.  Cars with all black leather interior tend to become very ward during the Summer months.  This is something I should have thought of in advance, but I don't think about the consequences of my long term plans before I make them.  Another example of this is Project Buy A House.
The Boston Red Sox sell a car sunshade that can help prevent your car from becoming very very very very hot during the Summer months.  Sure this is something that I should have bought in the Spring before the heat started, but shut up.  The Boston Red Sox Car Sun Shade costs $21.99, leaving me with $265.72 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
UFC 164 is this weekend.  You can buy and watch this event online and legally for $54.99.  This leaves me with $210.73 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
Since I do have a big fucking SUV, I need a GPS system to have in my big fucking SUV in order to pull off the entire "I'm a motherfucking doucebag with money, fuck you" aesthetic.  Since I am also tying to pull off this aesthetic on a budget, I need to incorporate things that I already own, like my iPhone.  What I need to do this is an iPhone 5 car mount, as well as a long lightening cable for my iPhone.  Since Apple doesn't sell long lightening cables, I need to buy a short lightening cable plus a USB extension cable.  Altogether, this entire package costs $37.72.  That leaves me $173.01 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
Franz Ferdinand recently released a new CD called "Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action".  This CD is getting generally good reviews, and Franz Ferdinand is one of those bands I really got into during my lengthy college experience.  Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action is currently on sale for $9.99.  This leaves me $163.02 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
There is also a new album coming out from Jack Johnson.  I haven't seen any reviews for it or heard any singles, but I fucking love this guy's music.  Currently you can get Form Here To Now To You for $11.88.  That leaves me $151.14 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
Saint Row IV recently came out, and people have been raving about it since it came out.  I would have bought it when it came out, but Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  Saints Row IV is currently selling for $59.99.  That leaves me $91.15 for me to not spend on myself.  Sigh.
Let's end things with a list of books for me to not buy for myself that I totally would if not for Project Buy A House.  March Book 1, which is the first part of a series of graphic novels about John Lewis and his life and role in the civil right movement, is currently selling for $11.46.  Crazy Love is a book that takes an inside look at abusive relationships, how those relationships develop, and why people stay in those abusive relationships.  As powerful as Leslie Morgan Steiner's TED talk was, this book appears to be even more powerful.  Crazy Love is currently selling for $12.00.  Some Ginger is selling another book for $4.88.  Hubris by David Corn and Michael Isikoff, which details the manipulating of intelligence leading up to the Iraq War and serves as a cautionary tale for conflicts going forward, is currently selling for $11.45.  Tao Lin's Taipei, a book which was mentioned in the recent Rolling Stone article about him, is currently selling for $11.36.  Love, Dishonor, Marry, Die, Cherish, Perish, the final book from the unfortunately deceased David Raikoff, is currently selling for $20.05.

That leaves me with $19.95 for me to not spend on myself, which seems like just the right place to stop.  Sure I could go on, but my appetite for masochism has it's limit, and I have reached it.  Join me in two weeks when another payday will come and, because I've already paid my rent, I will have more money for me to not spend on myself in the pursuit of Project Buy A House.

Red Review- Project L.A. Noire Journal

Project L.A. Noire Journal

Wednesday, May 18th, 12:34 A.M.

I started playing LA Noire today. Well, yesterday, but what the fuck does it matter. Most people don't consider one day to cross over to the next untill something like 4AM, so getting really technical about this shit is really quite bitchy.

I'm four cases into LA Noire. The first four cases serve as a kind of tutorial, so they don't have to be interesting, but they really should be. I hope to see more character development coming up. I'd like to see if the detective I'm playing as has a wife or kids or a yappy little mutt that will set off my cynophobia. Also, is it a bad thing that I don't know this guy's name or is that a result of my general inability to remember people's names untill I've known them for a long time. I bet Niko Bellic would be pissed if I didn't know his name.

I plan to spend tomorrow trying to hack game saves on my 360. I won't use my primary HDD, I'll use the one I bought today. Or yesterday if you want to get bitchy. I'm going to attempt to hack the save file of MLB 2K10 so that my career mode character will have 1,000,000 experience points. If this works, I may be able to use the same technique to finally beat Final Fantasy XIII. Also, a guy named Hunter Red would finally excel in something nominally sports related.

For a while now I've been claiming that I weigh one hundred eighty pounds. On my driver's license, 180. Work records, 180. Online chat rooms, 180. Secret underground sex dungeons, 180. So it was a shock to me when I weighed myself recently. I usually don't weigh myself, as I feel it can lead to succumbing to vanity, but it was there so I stepped on it. I now know that I weight two hundred pounds.

It's odd how a difference of twenty pounds affects the way that you perceive yourself. I used to think I was just your stereotypical pudgy nerd. Now, I feel fat and sort of ashamed about my body. I haven't even admitted publicly that I weigh two hundred pounds untill just now. So I decided to take action.

Today, I bought a bicycle. It is my intent to use my bicycle for exercise. Hopefully, over the next couple of months, I will be spending every free morning tooling around my neighborhood, hoping to leave little parts of myself behind with every drop of sweat. I don't have a set amount of weight I want to lose, I just want to be able to take this big hill by my house without having to take a break. That might take a while to accomplish but it will feel really good to be able to do so.

Oh, and I played some more L.A. Noire today. Maybe later on in the game I'll be able to run over people in my car without a little dialog box telling me not to popping up. Who knows, I might even unlock a machine gun.

Monday, May 23rd, 8:47 P.M.

There was a time in my life where I wore a hat everyday. Every single day. For about two years in high school and then for about five years thereafter, a baseball cap was a part of my regular attire.

For the two years in high school, I wore the same cap everyday, which, upon reflection, was a mistake. The dirt and sweat that Atlanta Braves cap accumulated made that thing give off an odor that repulsed people more than my freckles and glasses ever did. When I realized this, I didn't stop wearing hats. No, I wore multiple hats. Boston Red Sox, Ohio State Buckeyes, Rutgers football, Ukrainian Olympic Hockey, I wore any and every kind of baseball cap that was a shade of red. Well, except for the Cincinnati Reds, for they suck.

I now know the reason that I wore a hat everyday. It wasn't because I was an ardent fan of the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Ohio State Buckeyes, Rutgers football, or Ukrainian Olympic Hockey. I wasn't an ardent fan of any sports, outside of women's college gymnastics. The reason I wore a hat everyday was because I had no idea what to do with my hair. My hair was a mystery to me, a mystery that I had not yet solved. Rather than putting my efforts to figuring out what to do with my hair, I covered it up, I hid it, I tried my best to make my hair go away, outside of actually making it to away. I still don't know what good things to do with my hair, I just wear it long so that I emulate The Undertaker.

I'm guessing that the men in L.A. Noire also have no idea what to do with their hair. All of the men in L.A. Noire wears hats. All of them. Most of the caps worn by these men are the kind of stylish fedoras that I can't seem to find in my size, despite the fact that I see people wearing them occasionally. The men in L.A. Noire must be really ashamed of their hair, which is understandable considering the hairstyles worn by the absurdly attractive women in this game. I'm not kidding or exaggerating when I say that. God damn these women look marvelous.

Monday, May 24th, 1:25 P.M.

The sight of nudity tends to disturb some people. Their nudity, others nudity, the nudity of the Naked Cowboy, the sight of large amounts of uncovered flesh tends to make some people feel uneasy. The circumstances by which people view large amounts of naked flesh also tends to disturb people. When people see nudity in the gym, the strip club, or that bath house down the street you don't tell your wife about, people don't bat an eye. However, when people see a nude body at a crime scene, one can not help but have savage things go through your mind.

Such is the case with me while playing L.A. Noire. Many of the cases that Cole Phelps is sent to investigate involve a dead naked body, usually a woman's dead naked body. Viewing these bodies in this state seems to have an unnerving effect on me. It's odd to think of all the glamorous, well made ladies in this game, and then the way most of the women look at these crime scenes.

It surprises me that the usual suspects who complain about everything Rockstar Games puts out hasn't yet openly complained about this game. Remember the crap given to Rockstar over the full frontal nudity in The Lost and The Damned expansion pack to Grand Theft Auto IV? Or the lapdances that you can get in the regular edition of Grand Theft Auto IV? Why haven't these people jumped all over Rockstar Games for combining full frontal nudity AND naked women? My only guess if that they've moved on to something they feel is more important. Like if Barack Obama is a secret Kenyan muslim terrorist who's a sleeper agent for the KGB sent to sew the seeds of communism in the United States! That, or the recession has compelled them to get real jobs.

Sunday, May 29th, 12:04 P.M.

There's a point in L.A. Noire where one of the murderers taunts the police to catch him by leaving notes with clues in them throughout Los Angeles, leading investigators to various landmarks in the city. I understand that there are killers who are this arrogant and have taunted the police in this manner, but that doesn't make me enjoy situations like this any more. Just because something is realistic doesn't mean it's entertaining. For example:

Look at that picture of that dead animal. Is it realistic? Yes. Do you enjoy looking at it? No! Well, hopefully not.

Look at that picture of John F. Kennedy just after he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Is it realistic? Yes. Do you enjoy looking at it? No. Especially not the colour versions of that photo that I've seen.

Finally, look at this picture. Look at it. Is it realistic? Well, it is a thing that exists in this world, but I hesitate to call it realistic. Do you enjoy looking at it? I would hope your answer is no. Wait, not no, HELL NO!

Tuesday, May 31st, 2:01 P.M.

Yesterday, Memorial Day, I spent the day going to a family reunion. Most people my age actively avoid family reunions and see no value in going to them. Even less people my age choose to go to family reunions, and travel to go to them. I do. Every year I ensure that I have no plans for Memorial Day so that I can go to my family reunion. The reason for this is simple. My family reunion takes place in a location that is, depending on traffic, about a two hour drive away from my home. Rather than dreading this drive, I look forward to it. This is because I grasp on any excuse to take a long drive. Whether it's seeking out the only Segway dealership in Utah, looking for the nearest Borders bookstore to me that is not closing, or finding a Quizno's in Weber County, I love driving long distances. That love of driving is why I go to my family reunion each and every year.

Driving is also one of the things I enjoy doing in video games. Now, by driving I don't mean racing. Racing is something I do not find pleasurable, for I suck at it. However, going from point to point in a car in a video game setting just strikes a cord with me. My favorite game for the original Playstation is The Italian Job, which is a game where you just drive from point to point in various kids of British automobiles. If a game came out where you played as a long-haul truck driver, I would not only buy that game, I would pre-order it. I liked the portions in Mass Effect where you drove around in that much maligned dune buggy because I WAS DRIVING AROUND IN A DUNE BUGGY WITH A CANNON ON IT!

Maybe soon I'll be able to explain just why I enjoy driving as much as I do. But, for now, here's a kitty.

Friday, June 6th, 1:58 P.M.

With my big head of red hair, it is very hard for me to not be noticed in public. I tend to stand out in a crowd, a classroom, or a workplace breakroom. This is by design. I did not grow my hair out like this to conform with any kind of style. I grew out my hair like this so that people will notice and remember me. They may not remember my name or anything about me, but they remember my hair and, by proxy, me. The result of this is that it is very hard for me to be in a place and remain incognito.

It is also very hard to remain incognito in L.A. Noire. There's a mission in this game where you have to trail a suspect, and while doing so you have to, at times, go incognito in order to prevent him from spotting you. The problem with that is knowing when to go incognito and when to remain incognito is very difficult. The game mechanic of going incognito is itself difficult to master. There were times in playing this particular part of the game where I just wanted to go up and punch the suspect in the face.

I hope this is the last time in this game where I have to trail a suspect on foot, because that is by far the most frustrating part of this game to me. More frustrating than the perpetually looping music that I've heard 47593275328 times, which I can't turn off because, if I do, I no longer know if I've picked up all of the clues that I can acquire. I wish that I could just turn on the music that I have on the iPod that I have plugged into my Xbox 360, and have that music be incorporated into the game. I think Cole Phelps solving a murder case to the music of Marilyn Manson might be funny.

Later.

Sunday, June 5th, 6:26 P.M.

So now we meet Cole's wife. We find he has two daughters. We do not see them, but we know they exist. We find that Cole does, in fact, have a wife and that Cole's references to them are not just a poorly supported lie. We meet Cole Phelps's family, but it's not under the best of circumstances. That German broad had better be worth it.

Later.

Sunday, June 5th, 11:07 P.M.

Hey! It looks like the German broad is worth it. Not in the way that I was meaning, but she does figure into the game in a critical way. Still, I'd like to see more action. Mot gunplay, car chases, or foot pursuits. I mean ACTION. Oh yeah!

Later.

Thursday, June 9th, 1:24 P.M.

One of my favorite movies last year was Black Swan. When I first heard of this movie, I didn't intend to see it, but I got a free pass and I went to go see it. Black Swan is fascinating to me, specifically because of the character development in this movie. The way that the character of Nina moves between the personality types of the white swan and the back swan. It is riveting to me the way that Nina steps closer to the black swan personality, is on the cusp of crossing over, retreats back into the white swan personality, then crosses over and embraces the black swan entirely. The deep rich personalities and the way those personalities change is what makes Black Swan such a great movie.

L.A. Noire has nothing close to the qualities that make me love Black Swan. Never in the course of this game do we delve into the person that Cole Phelps is. We never really get to know his family life, his past before the war, or anything about what he thinks about what is going on. Rockstar Games had such a great opportunity here, to introduce the gaming public to the kind of deep rich personality that is rarely seen in this media.

That's not to say L.A. Noire is bad, in fact it is a very good game. L.A. Noire just could have been better. It's rare to complain about shallow characters in games, but in this case it is warranted because this game is screaming for more as far as character development. Perhaps Rockstar can improve on this aspect in the next world that they create.

L.A. Noire: A-
